Injury Update: Colts quarterback says he’s ‘progressing faster than everyone imagined’ in his…

As the Indianapolis Colts battle for a playoff place in the final three weeks, quarterback Anthony Richardson, the franchise’s future, struggles to recover from season-ending surgery.

Speaking to reporters for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury against the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 8, Richardson said he was told he might start throwing 16 weeks after surgery, but he intends to break that mark.

“I think I’m progressing way faster than everyone thought,” he remarked on Tuesday at Riley’s Children’s Hospital, according to CBS4’s Mike Chappell.

Richardson, who had shoulder surgery on Oct. 24, said he intends to throw a pigskin in the next month or so.

“They said it would be 16 weeks after surgery, but I’m hoping to be back sooner,” Richardson added. “However, we’ll see.” I’m hoping to throw next month, but if not, I’m sure I’ll rip it when the time comes.”

Richardson had a fantastic rookie season, proving to be a powerful dual-threat quarterback with a process that was ahead of most forecasts coming out of college. Early on, he seemed like a standout in Shane Steichen’s offense. However, injuries were a major issue.

The rookie quarterback didn’t finish the Week 1 game after taking a big hit, had a concussion in Week 2, missing a game, and then saw his season end in Week 5.

Richardson admitted that he first opposed surgery but later realized that it was in his best interests in the long run.

“I wanted to play and be there for my squad,” he added, “but this was probably the best thing for me, my future, and the team.” It permits me to return completely healthy.”

Barring a catastrophic setback, Richardson should be approved for offseason practice in time for the 2024 season. Keeping him healthy for next year and beyond will be critical for a franchise that has seen injuries wreck the careers of great quarterbacks in the past.
