Injury Update: Another Braves pitcher placed on injury list

Atlanta Braves news and notes from Tuesday.

The Atlanta Braves suffered another setback on the injury front as second baseman Ozzie Albies was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Albies, 27, was hit by a pitch in Monday night’s game, leaving him limping for the final eight innings. Further examination indicated that he had sustained a fracture in his right great toe.

This will not be Albies’ first foot injury; he was sidelined for an extended period of time in 2022 due to a foot fracture. Fortunately, this injury does not require surgery, and Albies could return in a few weeks.

Albies’ 2024 season got off to a strong start, with a.317 average in 63 at-bats. He’s already hit two homers and stolen two bases. Sean Murphy and Spencer Strider are still out, adding to the Braves’ injury woes.

In the meanwhile, the club signed infielder David Fletcher, who would most likely split time at second base with Luis Guillorme. Fletcher was acquired this offseason and has since played 13 games for Triple-A Gwinnett. He’s now hitting.280/.383/.320 and will be an intriguing addition to the Atlanta infield.
