Indianapolis Colts will have the top rushing offense in the NFL if…

With a healthy Jonathan Taylor and Anthony Richardson leading the way, the Indianapolis Colts’ rushing attack might be dangerous in 2024.

Jonathan Taylor and Anthony Richardson are both healthy and ready to go. This increases the Indianapolis Colts’ chances of having the NFL’s strongest running offense.

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens lead the league in rushing yards with 2,661. Quarterback Lamar Jackson, who won his second MVP award, led the way with 821 yards and five touchdowns. Gus Edwards had 810 yards and a team-high 13 touchdowns. Meanwhile, running backs Keaton Mitchell (396 and 2) and Justice Hill (387 and 3) also contributed.

The Ravens, who already had the league’s top running offense last year, added Derrick Henry earlier this offseason. The former Tennessee Titans standout is unquestionably one of football’s best running backs. While Baltimore is the league’s most dangerous running squad on paper, will the Colts maintain their position as the top rushing assault in 2024?

Indianapolis Colts Could Have NFL’s Top Rushing Offense in 2024

Jonathan Taylor-Anthony Richardson Duo is Must-See TV

When healthy, Jonathan Taylor is one of the best running backs around. Unfortunately, the former Wisconsin Badger has battled injuries over the last two seasons. He missed seven games last season, and six the year before.

Taylor was outstanding in 2021. He topped the league in rushing yards (1,811) and touchdowns (18). He was also named First Team All-Pro and the runner-up for Offensive Player of the Year. If Taylor can remain healthy and return to MVP form, the Colts’ offense will be explosive this season.

Anthony Richardson must stay healthy. Indy’s franchise quarterback played only four games as a rookie last season due to injuries.

However, when Richardson was on the field, he demonstrated his electrifying running skills. He scored three rushing touchdowns in four games, which is outstanding. He scored two running touchdowns against the Houston Texans in Week 2. If his season had not been cut short, he would have been a strong contender for Offensive Rookie of the Year alongside C.J. Stroud and Puka Nacua. Richardson will likely join Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick as one of the greatest running quarterbacks of all time. He’s expected to gallop for 720 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024. That sounds reasonable.

Jonathan Taylor and Anthony Richardson have played only two snaps together so yet. Indianapolis fans can’t wait to see them play for the entire season.

No Zack Moss, No Problem?

Zack Moss accomplished an excellent job as Taylor’s primary backup last year. He led the club with 794 running yards and five touchdowns. However, he left in the offseason and signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Surprisingly, the Colts did not replace Moss through the draft or free agency. Taylor’s backups will be Evan Hull (who is coming off a season-ending meniscus injury) and Trey Sermon. Both players are inexperienced, but they have the potential to be major contributors in 2024.

Can the Colts finish as the NFL’s top running offense? It’s certainly possible. Jonathan Taylor and Anthony Richardson might become unstoppable. Additionally, the squad boasts one of the league’s finest offensive lines. The offensive line’s five starters (Quenton Nelson, Ryan Kelly, Bernhard Raimann, Braden Smith, and Will Fries) will all return. If things go as planned, the Colts offense will be entertaining to watch.
