Indianapolis Colts quarterback joins Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity

The Indianapolis Colts are optimistic about their young sophomore quarterback’s performance this season.

Anthony Richardson, a former University of Florida quarterback and current Indianapolis Colts star, just joined the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Watch the Yard announced the news on their Instagram page, where Richardson posed with his new line brothers.

Richardson joined the prestigious fraternity in the Spring of 2024 through the Lambda Eta Chapter. That chapter represents local Indiana universities, such as the University of Indianapolis, Wabash College, Butler University, Marian University, and IUPUI. He now joins former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the late tennis legend Arthur Ashe as high-profile members of the fraternity.

The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity had a specific link to Indiana before Richardson’s initiation. Unlike numerous other Black Greek Letter Organizations, five of which were founded on the Howard University campus, Kappa Alpha Psi started itself at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Some of the organization’s founders, including Elder Watson Diggs and Byron Kenneth Armstrong, attended Howard University before going to Indiana University.

The Kappa’s new inductee is expected to have a breakout year in the 2024-25 NFL season. The Colts selected Richardson as the fourth choice in the 2023 NFL Draft after impressing evaluators with his size, speed, and athleticism at the NFL Combine. Despite just starting a few games in college, the Colts were certain they could develop Richardson into the perfect dual-threat quarterback.

With a cannon of a throwing arm and a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-4, 245 pounds, Indianapolis couldn’t pass on this chance. They haven’t had a quarterback with this much potential since Andrew Luck, who retired early due to health issues.

Richardson’s early career has been a mixed bag. On the one hand, he had only played four games. He sustained injuries in each game and was forced to miss the balance of the season after suffering a major shoulder injury.

However, throughout those four games, the former Florida quarterback appeared to be more than ready for the NFL. Scouts were concerned about his preparation for the professional league due to his lack of college starts. Throughout the four games, he swiftly alleviated those fears. He completed 50 of 84 throw attempts, for 577 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Richardson also had 25 rushing attempts for 136 yards and four touchdowns. He guided the Colts to a 2-2 record, with victories over the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans. He also nearly led them to an overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams, which they ultimately lost 29-23.
