Indianapolis Colts have suspended an ex-Alabama defensive back for…

The Indianapolis Colts suspended cornerback Tony Brown and wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie for three games each “for conduct detrimental to the team.”

The NFL organization announced in one phrase in a personnel transaction announcement on Tuesday afternoon that the former Alabama defensive back and McKenzie had been moved from the active roster to reserve/suspended status. The team did not go into detail about what the players had done to warrant punishment.

The suspensions will keep the players out of the lineup for the rest of the regular season. The Colts play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday before wrapping up the season at home against the Las Vegas Raiders on December 31 and the Houston Texans on January 7.

NFL teams seldom suspend players for several games. The NFL often imposes suspensions of that length for infractions of the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, Program and Policy on Substance Abuse, or Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances.

Brown started 12 of the Colts’ first 13 games this season, but he was a healthy scratch in Saturday’s 30-13 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brown played 56 defensive snaps and 252 special-teams plays in the 2023 season. Except for one defensive action, he played in the Colts’ 38-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 29.

Brown stopped a punt in the Tennessee Titans’ 31-28 overtime victory on December 3.

Brown re-signed with Indianapolis in the offseason after a comeback campaign with the Colts in 2022, when he had 303 special-teams plays.

Brown played on two CFP national championship teams at Alabama, and he had an interception in his final game with the Crimson Tide — a 26-23 overtime victory against Georgia in the national title game for the 2017 season.

Brown attended training camp with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted rookie in 2018. Brown was released by the Chargers at the end of the preseason and joined the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad before being signed to the active roster in the fourth week of the 2018 season.
Brown recorded 34 tackles, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a tackle for loss in 287 defensive snaps for Green Bay in 11 games. Brown has played 207 defensive snaps in 50 NFL regular-season games since then.

Brown appeared in nine games for the Packers in 2019. He did not play again after November 24, and he missed two games in October due to a hamstring ailment. Brown was listed as out for the first three weeks of December due to a heel ailment.

Brown was grabbed off waivers by the Bengals on December 30, 2019, after Green Bay released him the day before their final regular-season game.

Brown appeared in 13 games for Cincinnati in 2020. Brown had nine tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage, and broke up a pass in a 36-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 15, 2020.

Brown was cut to the regular-season roster limit after the 2021 preseason and spent time on the practice squads of the Cincinnati Bengals and Las Vegas Raiders that season without appearing in a regular-season game.
Brown agreed to terms with the Colts in 2022. He began the 2022 season on the practice squad before being promoted to the active roster in the second week.
