Incoming college all-star football games will be coached by a small group of Colts assistant coaches.

At a few of the next college all-star football games, a few of the Colts’ young assistant coaches will be teaching NFL prospects.

A few current members of the Indianapolis Colts coaching staff have been selected to serve as head coaches for some of the collegiate all-star football games in the works. These games include the Senior Bowl (February 3, 2024; Mobile, Alabama) and the 99th East-West Shrine Bowl (February 1, 2024; Frisco, Texas).

The East-West Shrine Bowl’s defensive linemen and wide receivers will be coached by Colts offensive quality control coach Brian Bratton and wide receivers coach Bryan Bing, a 2023 Tony Dungy Fellow, respectively (via Colts.com).

In the meantime, Cato June, a former Colts Pro Bowl linebacker and assistant linebackers coach, was named yesterday by the annual Reese’s Senior Bowl to assist in coaching the linebackers on the American Team:

Working with future NFL prospects is not only a terrific experience for some of the younger Colts assistant coaches, but it might also give the Colts scouting department an inside look at some of these prospects—once they report back to club headquarters.

Having June on the field should be especially welcome to Colts general manager Chris Ballard, who has a history of selecting Senior Bowl performers in the draft. This will allow Ballard to gain a better understanding of some of these prospects’ personalities, practice habits, and on-field abilities.

Given how tough it may be to choose from a large pool of possibilities at the NFL Draft and the narrow margin of error that is frequently available from pick to pick, any potential scouting advantage can be useful.
