In a “statement of commitment,” Birmingham City offers midfielder a new deal

Alfie Chang, a teenage midfielder for Birmingham City, has been offered a new, long-term deal.

Chang suffered a significant knee injury during August’s training, from which he is presently healing. He had previously agreed to new terms that would last until the summer of 2026, but they expired in June of 2024.

The Blues stated: “This statement of commitment from both the player and Birmingham City comes towards the conclusion of a year where the 21-year-old firmly established himself in the first team picture, making eight consecutive Sky Bet Championship appearances between February and April.”

Chang joined the Blues as an under-10 player and has grown through the organization. He has played for the team in 20 senior games to date, the most recent of which came in the opening round of the Carabao Cup, where the team defeated Cheltenham Town 2-0.

After signing his new deal, Chang commented in an interview with BluesTV, “It feels great.” Knowing that I will be here for that amount of time is incredibly satisfying, and the way my injury is currently progressing, it offers me a lot of security going forward.

“It shows faith from the Gaffer (Wayne Rooney) and Craig (Gardner) and that I am going to be a part of the plan going forward, hopefully, which is always good.”
