Josh Emmanuel, a former Ipswich Town full-back, has joined League Two club Doncaster Rovers on a short-term contract.

The 27-year-old was a free agent after being released by Carlisle United at the end of the previous season, having joined the Cumbrians in November.

Emmanuel has been on trial with Rovers and will reconnect with Grant McCann, his former Hull City boss.

On signing for his new team, he said: “I’m really pleased to get started and appreciative for the chance they’ve given me by bringing me in.

“You can’t beat training with the guys again, and I’ve thoroughly loved it. I knew a handful of the guys before I arrived, and I’ve settled in pretty nicely.”

Emmanuel made 29 appearances for Town after progressing through the academy before departing Portman Road for Bolton in 2019.

He didn’t play football for over a year owing to an ailment, which he later revealed was a clot that initially hampered his speech. It meant he couldn’t move the left side of his body.
