‘I was planning on committing to Notre Dame.’ Rookie star stated

Miami signed five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott in December.

The Hurricanes scored a huge win when they flipped him from Ohio State down the stretch.

However, long before all of that, Notre Dame was the team to beat for the 6-4, 300-pounder, who is ranked as the No. 7 player in the country.

Scott was supposed to announce his commitment in January 2023. My Crystal Ball predicted Notre Dame, and the Fighting Irish were on the verge of securing his commitment.

“I was going to commit to Notre Dame, but then hearing the other coaches, I was really like, ‘What’s the rush?’, basically.”

Scott has a strong preference for Notre Dame. Marcus Freeman and his staff, on the other hand, have a policy regarding commits that they do not take extra visits elsewhere after making a commitment. Scott resolved to take his time and make a more informed decision when the time came.

“All of the coaches were flying in and everything,” Scott added. “Coach Day from Ohio State and Coach Scott from Georgia both came in while I hadn’t taken my official visits, and I felt like I didn’t get to fully experience the recruiting process and take my official visits.” I knew I didn’t want to be committed when visiting other schools and such. So I was just slowing things down and feeling like I was just rushing it”.

Scott admitted that he was “never a true silent commitment” to Notre Dame, but he still has nothing but affection for the university. He admired how hard the team worked during his journey.

“No, not really,” Scott replied when asked if Notre Dame could have done better in recruiting him. “They worked hard to recruit me. Everyone on the faculty, even when they came to my school, there were around five coaches, not just one. Nothing much changed. They did the same for me.”
