A club veteran has encouraged the Bucs’ forward to adjust his temperament.

Orlando Pirates icon Andries Sebola has told young midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi to improve his temperament if he wants to succeed at the club.

Maswanganyi has been one of Pirates’ best performances over the last two seasons, and he has started 2024-25 excellently, including a 3-1 victory over SuperSport United in the MTN8 quarter-finals last weekend.

The attacker, on the other hand, made headlines for the wrong reasons after getting into a heated argument with SuperSport players and elbowing Matsatsantsa midfielder Gape Moralo, and Sebola believes such incidents will prevent him from becoming a Pirates legend if he does not cut them out of his game.

Is Maswanganyi turning into a Pirates bad boy?

“He must control his words and attitude,” former Pirates attacker Sebola told FARPost.

“Exchanging words with the opponents’ assistant coach [Andre Arendse] and elbowing the opponent [Gape Moralo] resulted in a red card if the referee saw.

“If he wants to be a big player for the Pirates, he needs to control his attitude and emotions because he isn’t one yet. He hasn’t arrived yet, but he’s a capable player.”

Tembisa-born ace has been brilliant for the Bucs

Maswanganyi has been a revelation for Pirates since joining from SuperSport two years ago, scoring 10 goals and giving 12 assists in his first season before contributing nine and three assists last season.

He won three trophies at the conclusion of 2023-24: Premiership Players’ Player of the Season, Premiership Midfielder of the Season, and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.

He was also called up to the Bafana Bafana squad for World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe, however he was an unused substitute in both.
