Having control over the game time of a Huddersfield Town loanee

Matt Taylor claims that Kieran Phillips’s start at Shrewsbury Town has not been enhanced by having to control his playing time.

Huddersfield Town loaned Phillips to the Shrews for the duration of the season after fierce competition for his services.

However, at this early point in the season, the striker has not yet reached his best form at his new team.

Additionally, Taylor disclosed that Phillips’ playing time has been limited as a result of a deal with his parent club while he heals from a serious hamstring injury he sustained in the previous campaign.

“Kieran has found it challenging,” the manager remarked. “When he arrived, we had to oversee his minutes with the help of his parent club.

“He has been recovering from a severe hamstring strain.

“Since we had to adhere to tight protocol, I would have given Kieran a chance sooner and placed him in.”

That had a part in the decision to relocate. Huddersfield requested that, in order to give him the best chance of playing a long season, we adhere to both their and our protocols.

Kieran hasn’t appeared as frequently as we would have wanted because of this. Does it hinder him? Sure.

“I’m not happy with the way things went? Sure. However, I knew about that before he signed, and the fact that we haven’t scored enough goals draws attention to it.

Throughout his loan stint with Morecambe in the first part of the previous season, Phillips—a highly talented football player—scored seven goals and provided two assists.

Taylor claims he is putting a lot of effort into his training and is optimistic that he will soon regain that form.

“Kieran has come here to be a goal scorer and score goals,” the speaker declared. He is prepared; he has been practicing diligently, and I have spoken with him frequently.

“He knows exactly what I’m looking for from him, which is nothing more or less than what his skill should be able to deliver.

It is now his responsibility to seize the chance when it presents itself.

“The problem with strikers is that they release pressure when they score a goal and win a game; this was the situation for Dan Udoh against Northampton.

They are able to play freely and intuitively thanks to it. Without a doubt, our forwards’ confidence will increase if they score their first goal.

“Kieran is driven to achieve, therefore I don’t see any problems at all. I’ll tell it one more. With the caliber of football clubs vying for his services, we were really fortunate to land him.”

“That being said, I am very confident he will fulfill the requirements of a striker’s job description, so it is up to him when he gets the opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net.”
