Harry Gregory wonders whether Leicester City is better…

Leicester City has been an easy target all season.

Now that the majority of those shots are going in, Harry Gregory wonders whether our club is better suited to leading the league or fighting against the odds.

We laugh at the idea of the ‘West Ham Way’. The notion that football fans would prefer a style of play above results is absurd. Most supporters simply want to see wins.

Given the dictates of needs-must, any suggestion that a football team has a specific style of play in the present era of super clubs is ridiculous.

The reality is that the ‘West Ham Way’ is simply a unique mechanism for supporters to rally around as clubs continue to homogenize into a single generic entity.

A common romantic belief in something greater than the brutal reality that failure results in a financial cliff, and trophy wins are becoming increasingly rare for those outside of the very elite clubs.

It is debatable whether fans dictate the playing style, but they can surely dictate the mood. Millwall is a wonderful illustration of this.

A ferocious challenge from a centre-back is more likely to shock The Den than the same player trying a 60-yard ping. In Tim Cahill’s final moments as a footballer on English soil, he went about trying booted everyone in front of him and was applauded off.
