Hardware For Phenomenal Work Is Due To This Colt

Shane Steichen, the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, is enjoying an incredible season.

After all is said and done, he may emerge as a candidate for NFL Coach of the Year or take home the trophy.

As of right now, Steichen’s Colts are 5-5. By any measure of the imagination, that record is hardly exceptional. Even still, it’s remarkable considering they haven’t been playing with rookie Anthony Richardson, their primary quarterback. The Tennessee Titans in Week 5 caused Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, to suffer an AC joint sprain. He will miss the remainder of the season due to the injury.

Gardner Minshew, a seasoned backup quarterback, has taken over as the starting quarterback while Richardson is out. Steichen has performed a fantastic job of keeping Minshew and the group focused and in the running for a postseason berth.

Shane Steichen Is A Legitimate NFL Coach of the Year Candidate

Coach of the Year Candidates Right Now

Steichen is in his first season as head coach of the NFL. However, he is not the only rookie coach in the AFC South. The Houston Texans, captained by rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, are led by DeMeco Ryans. This season, the Texans were predicted to be among the weakest teams in the league. Ryans has led his team to a 6-4 record, nevertheless.

The Minnesota Vikings, according to Kevin O’Connell, are 6-5. That’s really not terrible considering they’ve won two games without quarterback Kirk Cousins and five games without top wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Three different quarterbacks have helped Minnesota win games: Cousins, Jaren Hall, and Joshua Dobbs.

Under head coach Dan Campbell’s direction, the Detroit Lions, on the other hand, have the best record in the NFC North right now (8-2). They could be headed for their first division championship since 1993.

Other contenders for Coach of the Year are players like Cleveland Browns’ Kevin Stefanski and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin. Surprisingly, in his 17 years with the Steelers, Tomlin has never taken home the Coach of the Year award. 2020 saw Stefanski take home the prize.

Shane Steichen Deserves Recognition

The fact that Steichen is doing well in his role as head coach thus far is not shocking. In his role as offensive coordinator the previous season, he assisted in leading the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl.

In essence, Shane Steichen is an offensive maestro. With one exception, his Colts have scored at least 20 points in every game this season. Their most recent 10-6 victory over the New England Patriots in Germany was the only game they failed to score 20 points in. Indianapolis finished 4-12-1 in 2022, a terrible campaign. Before being fired halfway through the season, coach Frank Reich won three of those games. The other win went to Jeff Saturday, interim coach.

The Colts have already won one more game under Steichen in 10 games this season than they did in the whole previous campaign. Seeing how many victories this club can rack up by the conclusion of the season will be exciting to watch. The Colts have a good chance of making the postseason or nearly making it. In the event that either of these occurs, Steichen has to be considered a strong contender for Coach of the Year.
