Georgia’s Offensive MVP for the 2023 Season

Georgia had one of its most enjoyable offensive seasons in recent memory in 2023.

The Dawgs boasted one of the more dangerous attacks this season, ranking seventh in overall offense with 958 total plays totaling 6,951 yards, averaging 7.26 yards per play and 496.5 yards per game, and scoring 69 total touchdowns.

Some consider Carson Beck, the MVP of Georgia’s offensive powerhouse from the 2023 season, to be the Heisman Trophy contender this year. Beck had a fantastic season, finishing sixth in the NCAA in completion percentage (72.4%), third in the NCAA in passing yards (3,941), and eighth in the NCAA in passing efficiency (167.92).

He commanded one of the NCAA’s most potent passing offenses, but with only 24 touchdowns and six interceptions, he is not this year’s team MVP. Brock Bowers, the legendary Bulldogs tight end, might potentially be considered. Despite missing several games due to an ankle injury this season, Bowers led the team in reception yards with 714 yards, ranking him second among tight ends in the NCAA’s top 100 receiving yards.

A few historic performances from the big man, such as his fourth-quarter heroics against Auburn or being the fastest human to ever recover from a tightrope surgery, could also solidify his case as the offensive MVP for this season, but one player stood out above both Bowers and Beck this year.

Daijun Edwards, the Dawgs’ running back, will be named the 2023 offensive MVP. With an injured Kendall Milton to begin the year, Mike Bobo and Dell McGee were looking for answers quickly before Edwards emerged into the scene and raced away with the role.

He saw no action in the first two games of the season, but he made his 20 carries against South Carolina count with 118 yards and a touchdown. Edwards carried for more than 100 yards twice this season and scored two touchdowns in five games as Georgia went 13-1.

This season, Edwards’ explosion helped him become the NCAA’s 60th-leading rusher with 881 yards and tied for 22nd with 13 total touchdowns. This season, Edwards succeeded in practically every aspect, earning himself the offensive MVP for 2023 on his path to the NFL.

There are lots of accolades and trophies to be given to each member of the nation’s fifth-ranked offensive attack in the NCAA, but Daijun Edwards stood out this year and helped the Dawgs the most. He’ll now prepare for the NFL draft, as the Dawgs try to replace him and Kendall Milton.
