Georgia’s 5-star freshman cornerback is allegedly planning to enter the transfer portal

According to various sources, Georgia freshman defensive back A.J. Harris became the latest high-profile Georgia player to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Friday.

Harris was a 5-star recruit and a Top 30 national prospect in the Class of 2023 out of Central-Phenix City. In 2023, he appeared in seven games and recorded eight tackles.

Harris appears to acknowledge entering the portal in reaction to teammate Tykee Smith’s social media post.

Harris is the latest Georgia 4- or 5-star prospect to enter the portal this cycle, joining quarterback Brock Vandagriff (who has already committed to Kentucky), edge rusher Marvin Jones Jr., linebacker Xavier Sorey, and cornerback Nyland Green. Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson, a preseason All-SEC selection this season, is one of 15 Bulldogs from the 2023 roster listed in the portal.

Harris spent his junior and senior years at Glenwood School in Smiths Station before transferring to Central-Phenix City. He played at Central with current 5-star wide receiver recruit Cam Coleman, who just transferred from Texas A&M to Auburn.

Coleman, who helped Central win the 7A state championship last week, appeared to make a social media plea for Harris to join him at Auburn on Friday.
