South Florida native Patrick Surtain, who coached him at American Heritage School, will be reunited with him at Florida State.
Jones Jr. was recruited out of high school by Florida State and was thought to be leaning toward the Seminoles before deciding on the Bulldogs. He decided to enter the transfer portal after Georgia’s 29-game winning streak was ended in the SEC championship game against Alabama.
His father won the Butkus Award in 1992 while playing for the Seminoles and was fourth in Heisman Trophy voting that year. He went on to be the No. 4 overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, where he played his whole 11-year career.
