Tennessee football has added another top candidate to its 2025 class with the commitment of four-star linebacker Christian Gass.

On3 Recruiting ranks him as the No. 85 player and No. 6 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class.

The Covington, Georgia native selected Tennessee over other SEC schools. Gass chose the Volunteers over Georgia, USC, Kentucky, and Florida. In his choice, Gass stated that the Vols coaching staff has been honest with him from the beginning.

“Tennessee has been genuine with me from the beginning,” Gass told On3. “When I cut it down, it was crucial for me to find someone who was honest and demonstrated affection. Tennessee has always done that. Coach Ek (Mike Ekeler), coach William Inge, coach, and the coaches at Tennessee made me their priority. They demonstrated to me that I was valuable to them, and this has remained consistent.

“The way they came to know me was very important to me. Tennessee recruited me as both a person and a linebacker, so that has taught me a lot. I feel at ease with the coaches there. They are excellent folks with positive energy who have gotten to know me.”

We’ve heard a lot about Josh Heupel and the coaching staff being player-first coaches, and Gass exemplifies this, at least in his recruiting approach.

With Gass’ pledge, the Vols now have the No. 10 recruiting class in the nation and the No. 5 class in the SEC, according to On3’s rankings. The Vols could have more positive news in the coming weeks as other top-tier players explore committing to the program.

Gass follows four-star wide receiver Travis Smith, four-star defensive lineman Charles House, four-star edge rusher Mariyon Dye, four-star offensive lineman Douglas Utu, and three-star cornerback Tre Poteat in committing to Tennessee during the last four weeks.

Four-star safety Lagonza Hayward, four-star offensive lineman Juan Gaston, and five-star offensive linemen David Sanders Jr. and Josh Petty are all expected to commit soon, with the Vols vying for all of them.
