Georgia Signs Huge Transfer Defensive Tackle
|As we discussed on Signing Day, Georgia had a pressing need for defensive line help in this recruiting cycle.
After receiving excellent play from Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt, and Jalen Carter during the Dawgs’ two-year National Championship run, that unit underperformed at times in 2023.
Georgia recruited six defensive linemen on National Signing Day, and now the ‘Dawgs have acquired another offensive lineman in South Carolina transfer Xzavier McLeod. McLeod comes to Athens after a redshirt season in which he made one tackle and one interception and will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
McLeod, who stands 6’5 and weighs 284 pounds, was recruited by UGA out of Camden, South Carolina before electing to stay in-state and become a Gamecock. McLeod was a genuine blue chip talent, rating #117 overall in the 247Sports rankings and #16 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle.
McLeod projects as a possible weak side end in 3-4 looks and could play almost any position in 4 man fronts. While he certainly didn’t see much video as a freshman, he was already a player with above-average arm length and a great first stride out of high school. When Georgia needs a big, quick end to set the edge in the rushing game, I expect him to compete with freshmen Justin Greene and Joseph Jonah-Ajonye for playing time as a 4 to 5 technique tackle.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
