Georgia running back declares for the NFL Draft in 2024

Daijun Edwards, a Moultrie native, helped lead the Georgia Bulldogs to the biggest bowl game victory in college football history.

Georgia supporters watched the running back in red and black for the last time in a 63-3 victory.

Edwards revealed on social media that he will enter the NFL Draft in 2024.

“It has been an honor to represent Georgia Football for the past four years!” Every memory I formed with my brothers in the dark between the hedges will be treasured. Edwards expressed gratitude to God, his family, his teammates, and all of our fans for their unending support. I will be eternally grateful to my coaching staff for their leadership, support, and the opportunity to demonstrate my abilities on the field! With that said, I’m pleased to announce that I WILL OFFICIALLY BE DECLARING FOR THE 2024 NFL DRAFT!”

The senior has spent the last four years in Athens, where he has unquestionably made his mark. He led the Dawgs in rushing yards with 881 and rushing touchdowns with 13. He’s well familiar with the record, as he’s presently Colquitt County’s all-time leading rusher. Edwards discussed how South Georgia prepared him for this adventure with WALB Sports.”It prepared me a lot for how things are supposed to go and what I’m supposed to do,” Edwards added.

Edwards was a key member of the Dawgs’ core group of players during his tenure in Athens. They went 50-4 in four years, winning back-to-back national championships, the Orange Bowl twice, and the Peach Bowl once. With 29 active wins, they had the longest active winning streak in NCAA football. For Edwards, the highlight of his four years was very clear.

“Probably winning those two National Championships.”Edwards expressed his pride at being a bulldog.”I’m thankful for my job.” “I really wanted to finish the right way with my teammates.”

Few people understand Edwards as a player and person better than Bulldogs Head Coach Kirby Smart. They both grew up in south Georgia, forming a peculiar link that only they understood, noting, “He’s from Colquitt County, who used to beat up on me all the time in high school.” I love on him and hug his neck every time I see him and talk to him. He’s grown into such a wonderful person. He’s one semester away from graduating, and he’s so proud of who Daijun has become. He’s a child who wasn’t even heavily recruited to be here. We took the youngster because we knew he was tough, would work hard, and had a great season for us to assist with.”

Edwards is the seventh Georgia Bulldog to declare for the draft. Kendall Milton, Ladd McConkey, Tykee Smith, Javon Bullard, Kamari Lassiter, and Amarius Mims are also on the roster.
