Georgia coach has added James Coley and Josh Crawford to his offensive staff

Athens, Georgia — On Monday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart announced the hiring of James Coley as wide receivers coach and Josh Crawford as running backs coach and run game coordinator.

Coley succeeds Bryan McClendon, who is currently the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wide receivers coach. Crawford succeeds recently appointed Georgia State coach Dell McGee.

Coley is making his second professional move in two months, after being named wide receivers coach at South Carolina on January 12.

Coley previously coached Georgia’s wide receivers from 2016 to 2017, quarterbacks from 2018 to 2019, and served as offensive coordinator in his final year with the Bulldogs. From 2020 to 2023, he was the wide receivers and tight ends coach at Texas A&M.

Smart described Coley as “a tremendous teacher and leader of young men.”

“His previous experience on our staff will make this a seamless transition,” he said.

Crawford was the Georgia Tech wide receivers coach in 2023. He received his master’s degree from Georgia in 2012, after playing running back at Morehouse College in Atlanta.
