Gary Neville gets an egg on his face from Vincent Kompany’s remarks about rival

A week after Gary Neville trashed Arsenal’s set-piece coach Nicolas Jover, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany praised the Gunners’ set-play danger.

After Arsenal defeated Burnley on Saturday, Vincent Kompany stated that his team is among the best in the Premier League in set pieces.

Leandro Trossard, William Saliba, and Oleksandr Zinchenko scored goals for Kompany’s struggling team, which resulted in a 3-1 loss at the Emirates. Two of the goals came from set plays, an aspect of Arsenal’s strategy that Sky Sports analyst Gary Neville previously criticized.

Speaking following Arsenal’s game against Newcastle last week, he also criticized Nicolas Jover, the set-piece coach for the club, for his actions on the touchline. Neville stated: “The set-piece coach down here [Jover], he was doing my head in as well. It was driving me crazy.”

He was yelling nonstop, acting as though he were the manager. That might not be helpful. He is yelling angrily at Trossard for stealing the set pieces. Settle down; you’ve told him three or four times, you’ve gone over it with him during the week, and it’s posted on the board in the locker room before the game.

“I felt like he was putting more pressure on Trossard to take the corners, which Trossard, to be fair, couldn’t handle because of how terrible his corners were.”

Although Jover and Arsenal’s set-plays at St. James’ Park last week left Neville unsatisfied, Kompany was quick to praise the Gunners’ excellent performance from deadball situations against his team.

“I think it’s something that will make us even sharper, even more aware of the threat of the level of this league,” he stated, even while facing a top team. It’s hardly a coincidence, and Arsenal deserves praise as well.

Because they play near your box and have good possession, these teams also produce dangerous set plays and set pieces. They are one of the league’s top teams at what they do, therefore you have to deal with them. Remember, they are, in my opinion, the finest team when it comes to set plays.

“They never stop trying you. Set plays are used if it’s not through the middle or through shots that are on target. The best will put you to the test in every manner; for us, it serves as a reminder to always be alert and focused on the present moment.
