Freshman receiver Leaves Transfer Portal, Declares Return to Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes have added another player to their 2024 roster.

Bryson Rogers, a freshman receiver for the Buckeyes, said Saturday morning that he will be withdrawing his name from the transfer portal and returning to the Scarlet and Gray.

“I appreciate all the coaches that blessed me with an opportunity to come to their program,” Rogers said in a statement. “This has not been an easy road for me. Buckeye Nation, after much deliberation and consideration, I will be returning to The Ohio State University.”

Rogers is now one of three freshmen receivers on the roster for the Buckeyes next season, including veteran Emeka Egbuka. Brandon Inniss and Carnell Tate (the other two returning first-years alongside Rogers) have previous experience.

Incoming freshman Jeremiah Smith will also join Rogers next season. Smith was not just the top recruit in the country at his position, but also the top recruit in his class overall.

However, the recent news has not been all positive for the Buckeyes. Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State’s leading receiver and Heisman Trophy finalist, declared earlier this week that he would enter the 2024 NFL Draft rather than return for his senior season.

Rogers’ inclusion is both welcome and surprising for the Buckeyes, given few athletes choose to exit the transfer portal once their name has been registered.

One thing is certain: Ohio State transfer quarterback Will Howard will have plenty of excellent receivers to choose from next season.
