Fresh Teams To Two Former Town Players

Toto Nsiala and Richard Keogh, former Blues defenders, have joined new clubs.

Nsiala, 31, has joined League One Burton Albion on a contract until the end of the season after leaving Fleetwood by mutual consent in November.

“I’ve been here for about two weeks now and I’ve been keeping fit, so I just want to get back playing,” Nsiala, who was with Town from 2018 to 2022, told the Brewers’ official website.

“It’s an incredible dressing room here at Burton, perhaps one of the best I’ve ever been in; the guys are lovely to be around.

“My aim now is to play well, enjoy it, win football matches and help the club climb up the table.”

Brewers manager Martin Paterson added: “Toto has a lot of experience and has played at all levels. We now have suspension and injury worries, and he has been training with us in the hopes of earning a contract with the club, so the timing is probably ideal to get him involved.

“He’s a leader and an excellent centre-half. We believe in him; he is fit and ready to go.

Keogh, who left Town last summer after a year, has joined League Two table-toppers Forest Green Rovers.

The 37-year-old left Wycombe Wanderers in January and has had limited participation at Adams Park.

“I’m excited to get started and look forward to getting right into it,” the former Republic of Ireland international told the Rovers website.

“Myself and the gaffer [Steve Cotterill] have a long history, and when he called, I was quite excited about the opportunity. I’d like to come here and serve the organization in any way I can.

“I wouldn’t be here if I weren’t prepared for the challenge ahead. There are plenty of points to play for, and the new manager has created a positive atmosphere, so we simply need to keep pushing each other.”

Cotterill continued: “Richard offers experience to the group. He is an excellent communicator. We have a fairly young bunch, and he will provide a voice on the field.

“His expertise and positioning will be important. It’s really tough to find someone of Richard’s caliber among the current free agents. I know what I’m receiving from him, and he’ll contribute so much to the group.

“It’s not just what Richard brings to the pitch; it’s also what he brings off it. “He’s an impeccable professional.”
