French center back, 23, is a target for Newcastle United

In the forthcoming January transfer window, Newcastle United is supposedly in the running to capture OGC Nice’s elegant defender, Jean Clair-Todibo.

As Eddie Howe seeks to strengthen his defense even further, Fichajes of Spain reports that Newcastle United is “willing to make an effort” to hire the OGC Nice defender.

Since PIF’s ownership just over two years ago, the Magpies have experienced a stratospheric rise. Newcastle United, which was acquired from a team that was at the time playing in the bottom echelons of the Premier League, is currently in the Champions League and hammering European elites like PSG 4-1 in front of a crowded St. James’ Park.

Their success is partly because to Eddie Howe’s great leadership, which has been supported by some truly wise acquisitions along the road. Though the club has stayed within its FFP parameters, notable acquisitions like Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier, Alexander Isak, and Sandro Tonali have laid out their goals and helped turn the team into a force to be reckoned with.

In order to maintain Newcastle’s standing among the best, the PIF is looking for additional players who can join Howe’s squad and improve it. The club is expecting to finish back in the European spots this season.

The center-back position is one important area Eddie Howe wants to strengthen. And excellent French central defender Jean-Clair Todibo is one of the individuals that stands out on his short list.

The 23-year-old has established himself as a major member of the Ligue 1 team and has drawn the interest of several prestigious teams as a result of his outstanding play for Nice.

Prior to the European championships in the summer of 2019, he will strive to establish himself as a regular starter for France, where he has already managed to break into the international setup.

The player is under contract with the Ligue 1 team through the summer of 2027, and if a suitor wants to sign him soon, he will probably demand a higher fee. As a result, Todibo might be considered the successor to Fabian Schar’s place on the backline of the Magpies, as the Swiss, who is 31 years old, is entering the final year of his contract at St. James’ Park.

Schar has seen a sort of comeback under Howe, is proving to be one of the better buys in many seasons, and is disproving the £3 million transfer fee that former manager Rafael Benitez paid to Deportivo La Coruna for his services.

Howe would be prudent to concentrate on improving his team rather than rewarding Schar with another short-term contract, even though the Magpies are in discussions to do so. Similar to Schar, Todibo is a ball-playing defender who can make a significant contribution to offensive maneuvers beginning at the back.

In addition, the Frenchman is the ideal choice to join forces at the back with Sven Botman due to his versatility, passing skills, and athleticism. It is uncertain whether Newcastle will purchase Todibo at the beginning of the year.
