Former Town loanee gets relegated to League Two

Conor Grant, a former Ipswich Town loanee, has been relegated from League One with Port Vale.

Darren Moore’s team were formally demoted on Saturday after a 2-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers, returning to the fourth division two years after being promoted.

The Valiants ended 18th last season, winning only 10 of their 45 games, five of which came in the opening six weeks.

Moore took over at Vale in February, following Andy Crosby’s dismissal, but has lost 11 of his 16 games in charge

Less than a year ago, he led Sheffield Wednesday to Championship promotion before leaving the Owls and spending only five months at Huddersfield Town before being fired.

Grant joined the Valiants last summer on a two-year contract after being released by Plymouth Argyle, where he helped them win the League One title in 2022/23.

In his first season at Vale Park, the midfielder played 37 games in all competitions but was unable to keep the club from relegation.

He appeared seven times for the Blues during his brief loan stay from Everton in 2016/17.
