Former OU softball star commits with OKC Spark

Tiare Jennings, a former Oklahoma softball star, has joined OKC Spark.

Tiare Jennings, a former OU softball player, has signed with the Oklahoma City Spark for the duration of the 2024 season, the franchise announced Monday.

Jennings, a four-time Women’s College World Series champion with the Sooners, will make her debut Tuesday against Chattanooga.

Jennings, a star defensive player, also batted.Last spring, he batted 370 with 25 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 74 hits. Her 98 career home runs are third all-time in college softball. Her 314 RBIs rank fifth.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tiare Jennings to the Spark,” Spark owner Dr. Tina Floyd stated in a release. “Her amazing bat, strong defense, and consistent record-breaking history make her an invaluable asset to our squad. “We eagerly await her contributions and leadership on the field.”

OU adds four-star WR to 2025 class

OU football’s SEC debut got off to a quick start Monday.

While Sooners supporters celebrated the program’s conference debut, four-star wide receiver Cortez Mills chose OU over Clemson, Florida, LSU, and Nebraska. Cortez, a 6-foot-1 junior from Homestead, Florida, is an example of the type of recruit that head coach Brent Venables will need to land in the SEC.

According to 247Sports’ Composite rankings, Cortez is the No. 11 receiver nationally and the No. 12 player in Florida. Cortez is also ranked among the top 100 players in the nation.

Cortez has 79 catches for 1,640 yards and 18 touchdowns last season at Homestead. Mills visited the Sooners on June 14 and LSU on June 21.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Megan Delgadillo, an outfielder from Cal State Fullerton, has been added to the Oklahoma State roster via the transfer portal. Delgadillo, a Riverside, California native who committed to OSU over the weekend, won the NFCA Golden Shoe Award this season for leading NCAA Division I softball with 44 stolen bases in 46 tries. As a senior, she led the Titans in batting average (.417), with 86 hits and 49 runs scored.

COLLEGE WRESTLING: Stan Abel, a National Wrestling Hall of Famer and former OU head coach, died on Friday at the age of 87, the university confirmed Sunday. Abel, who wrestled at Oklahoma and later served as head coach from 1973 to 1993, led the Sooners to the 1974 national championship and is the program’s all-time wins leader. He won 279 duals at OU and finished with a.690 winning percentage.

MEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS: Sergey Avdeyev, a former No. 1 player, team captain, and volunteer coach at OU, was selected the Conference USA Coach of the Year in 2023 after five seasons as the head coach of Texas-San Antonio.
