Jordan Evans, a former All-Big 12 linebacker for the Oklahoma Sooners, announced his retirement from football after a six-year professional career that included five seasons in the NFL and one in the XFL.

Evans grew up in Norman, Oklahoma, and went to Norman North High School. He is the son of Scott Evans, a three-time All-Big Eight defensive tackle who also played for Oklahoma.

Evans had a stellar career in Norman from 2013 and 2016. He ranked second on the team in tackles in 2015 and led the Sooners in tackles in 2016. He was named first-team All-Big 12 in 2016 and second-team in 2015. He also led the team with four interceptions during his final year.

I contacted Evans, who stated Oklahoma helped shape who he is now.

“Playing at OU was an experience I will never forget,” Evans stated. “Inquired about some of my most treasured memories. I met several of my close pals. Was coached by renowned coaches, including Bob Stoops, a college sports icon. Playing for your hometown is not common, and being able to do so was one of my greatest blessings, and I am glad for the opportunity. I credit much of my achievement and identity to OU.”

Evans was taken in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL draft and played five seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals. Evans tells me that he is obtaining his MBA but wants to start coaching.

Given his progression from three-star recruit to all-conference performance to NFL draft pick, I’m confident he’ll be successful in whatever he chooses to do.
