Nottingham Forest centre-back Felipe has declared on social media that his current season with the Tricky Trees will be his last as a professional.

Felipe Augusto, Nottingham Forest’s Brazilian centre-back who previously played for Atletico Madrid and Porto, revealed on Monday that he will retire from professional football at the conclusion of the season.

“The time has come to leave the pitch, and the plan is to leave at the end of the season here at Nottingham Forest in England,” the 34-year-old defender wrote on social media.

Felipe stated that “it is still too early to explain the reasons” that caused him to make this decision and promised to do so “later,” since he now has a contract with the English club until the end of June and wishes to “fulfill it.”

“But out of respect for the clubs that have been looking at me for the future, and even my current club, I wanted to come here and talk about this with an open heart and honesty,” said the soccer player.

The former Brazil international confessed that he pondered “a lot” about his future with his family before deciding to retire after all the “great moments” he had encountered during his career.

“I can only be thankful for the career I’ve had, playing for big clubs, four different countries, in the Brazilian national team and with many stories to tell for the rest of my life,” the player said.

The defender, who began his career at Bragantino and gained European attention after a period with Corinthians, one of Brazil’s most recognized clubs, stated that he will use his final months “in the best way, with a lot of joy, intensity, and dedication”.

Felipe began his European career with Porto before moving on to Atletico Madrid, where he played from 2019 to 2023, earning the 2020-21 La Liga title. He joined Nottingham Forest last year, but injuries have kept him from performing to his full potential.
