Former Norwich City player delivers Kieran McKenna admission
|Former Norwich City player Darren Huckerby has said that he would want to see Kieran McKenna stay at Ipswich Town.
The 38-year-old has been widely linked with a transfer away from Portman Road in recent weeks, and talk regarding his future hasn’t stopped.
Although there has been interest in McKenna in the past, it has been far less intense than it is now, with the Northern Irishman squarely in the running for three roles.
Brighton & Hove Albion were previously considered to be in advanced talks to hire him, but whether they will remains to be seen, with others in the running.
Chelsea, as well as Manchester United, are thought to be serious on signing the 38-year-old.
The longer this situation continues, the more probable McKenna’s position with the Tractor Boys will grow untenable.
It would be a huge loss for Ipswich if he left, since their manager guided them to back-to-back promotions earlier this month and has done an excellent job at Portman Road.
Even despite these advancements, McKenna does not appear to be ready to commit his long-term future to the Tractor Boys just yet, with the 38-year-old unlikely to sign a new contract.
His current contract may not expire until 2027, but the only way he can eliminate speculation about his future in the immediate term is to sign an extension.
Darren Huckerby speaks out amid Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town exit links
Given a former Norwich player, he would be able to enjoy this story, given Ipswich are the Canaries’ arch-rivals.
Everything seemed to be going so well for the Tractor Boys prior to this, but they may now lose McKenna, which could be a devastating blow if they are unable to find a suitable successor.
Huckerby is eager to keep McKenna, despite the possibility that his departure may jeopardize the Tractor Boys’ 2024/25 campaign.
He wrote: “As a former Norwich player, I sincerely hope he stays at Ipswich!
“The club, fans, and players believed in his concept and supported him wholeheartedly.
“I know there’s not much loyalty in football, but they deserve to see him manage Ipswich in the Premier League, but I suppose money talks.”
