A former big leaguer who was born in Atlanta when his father played for the Braves has died unexpectedly.

A former Major League Baseball player died unexpectedly on Thursday at the age of 43. He was born in Atlanta while his father was a member of the Braves in the early 1980s.

The Long Beach Little League Instagram page reports that Sean Burroughs “tragically passed away” after collapsing while coaching his son’s little league team in Long Beach, California.

Burroughs played seven seasons in the major leagues with the Padres, Rays, Diamondbacks, and Twins. His father, 1974 American League MVP Jeff Burroughs, spent four seasons with the Atlanta Braves from 1977 to 1980. Sean Burroughs was born in Atlanta in 1980.

Burroughs moved to California and played for the Long Beach Little League World Series team, which won back-to-back championships in 1992 and 1993. In the 1993 Little League World Series, he became a legend by pitching consecutive no-hitters and helped his club win another championship.

Burroughs was one of baseball’s best prospects after being selected ninth overall in the 1998 MLB Draft. He chose to sign with the Padres rather than attend college at the University of Southern California.

Burroughs helped the United States capture gold at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

Burroughs played in 528 MLB games, hitting.278 with 12 home runs and 143 RBI.
