Former Ipswich Town duo have been transfer moved

Cambridge United and Gillingham have both put former Ipswich Town players Jack Lankester and Oli Hawkins on their transfer lists.

Manager Garry Monk has made four players available for transfer, including Lankester, who is under contract with the U’s until next summer.

The 24-year-old attacker joined the U’s from Ipswich in the summer of 2021 and has since appeared in over 100 games for the club.

He played 47 games in all competitions for Cambridge, scoring three goals as the club finished 18th in the third tier in 2023/24. He played alongside Town striker Gassan Ahadme, who was on loan at the League One team previous season.

Lankester, who was born in Bury St Edmunds, rose through the Blues’ academy system, appearing in 30 games and scoring three goals while at Portman Road.

Hawkins is one of four players Gillingham is willing to release this summer as new manager Mark Bonner, formerly of Cambridge, looks to bring in his own players at the Priestfield Stadium.

The 32-year-old forward joined with Neil Harris from Mansfield Town in January 2023. He has now made slightly about 50 appearances for the Kent team.

He missed the first part of the 2023/24 season due to a plantar fascia injury, but returned in December and scored four goals in 25 games for the Gills, who ended 12th in League Two.

Hawkins appeared only 23 times for Town during his season at Portman Road, scoring one goal before leaving to join the Stags in the summer of 2021.
