Former Ipswich Town captain David Norris scored a hat-trick in his final game before retiring from football.

The 43-year-old revealed earlier this month that he was retiring after a professional career spanning more than a quarter century.

In his final game of the 2023/24 season, he scored three goals for Lancaster City, although they were defeated 4-3 by FC United of Manchester.

Norris has been with the seventh-tier club since December 2018, making over 100 appearances in the Northern Premier League.

Despite having four knee surgeries in his career, he initially retired in 2022 as advised by his surgeon, but has since continued to play.

He began his career with Stamford and later went on to play for Boston United, Bolton Wanderers, Hull City, and Plymouth Argyle.

His achievements in Devon piqued the interest of then-Town manager Jim Magilton, who bought Norris for £2 million in January 2008, and he quickly established himself as a major member of the team

Norris played three years at Portman Road, making 118 appearances and scoring 17 goals. Roy Keane also named him club captain for the 2010/11 season.

The midfielder left the club in 2011 to join Portsmouth on a free transfer. He later played for Leeds United, Peterborough, Yeovil Town, and Blackpool.

He left the Football League in 2016 to play for non-league clubs Leatherhead, Salford City, Shaw Lane, and Boston.

Norris ends his 27-year playing career with almost 500 professional games.
