Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver with 96 career starts gets acquired by the Indianapolis Colts

The Green Bay Packers have certainly moved on from a number of of wide receivers over the last few seasons.

Of course, the most notable came when the Packers traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.  This past off-season the Packers also moved on from Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb.

However, it was a different wide receiver who got a chance to workout with the Indianapolis Colts this week.

Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Sammy Watkins Works Out For The Indianapolis Colts

Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport:

Watkins, 29, was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He has recently spent time with both the Green Bay Packers and the Baltimore Ravens. Watkins accumulated just 325 receving yards and 16 receptions while with both teams.

Through nine games, Indianapolis’ offense has seen some success under new coach Shane Steichen. Bringing in Watkins could be a low risk high reward type of situation.

In 2017, Watkins played for the Los Angeles Rams, and from 2018-2020, he played for the Kansas City Chiefs. His 53 receptions for 673 yards and three touchdowns helped the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl in the Patrick Mahomes era in 2019.

Watkins hasn’t experienced the same level of success with his previous franchises, but adding an experienced wideout might make sense for the Colts’ offense going forward.
