Former Georgia Bulldogs OL earns huge performance-based motivation

Jamaree Salyer, a Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman, has swiftly established himself in the NFL.

In two years in the NFL, Salyer has started 31 games for the Chargers.

Salyer participated in 99% of the Chargers’ offensive snaps during his second season in Los Angeles. Salyer primarily played right guard for the Chargers after playing left tackle a year prior.

Salyer earned the NFL’s ninth-highest performance-based incentive. The NFL’s performance-based incentive system is intended to reward players who earn less than most other NFL players but nevertheless play a large number of snaps. Last season, Salyer received approximately $840,000 in performance-based bonuses. Salyer’s base salary was $870,000 in 2023, plus a $43,982 signing bonus, thus his performance-based bonus nearly doubled his pay.

Salyer attended the University of Georgia and was drafted by the NFL in the sixth round in 2022. The Chargers got a great deal on Salyer.

Salyer started at left tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs in both the 2020 and 2021 college football seasons. During his final season at Georgia, the 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive tackle surrendered only two hurries and no sacks.

Salyer will not be an NFL free agency until 2026, so the Chargers have him on a cheap contract for a few more seasons.
