Former Colts star blasts GM Chris Ballard in recent statements

Former Indianapolis Colts tight end Eric Ebron had some choice words about his old general manager.

The Indianapolis Colts made nine picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, bolstering their roster with youthful players. Colts general manager Chris Ballard used the draft to bridge the gap between last year’s playoff exclusion and his ambitions for next season, hoping to bring some of college football’s greatest players into the club.

One of Ballard’s options, wide receiver AD Mitchell, came under fire from an unidentified source who claimed Mitchell lacked character. Ballard went on to label the allegation “bullshit,” defending his newest player in a tirade that upheld draftee integrity and slammed the idea of anonymous sources making bogus charges.

Most people appreciated Ballard for it, but former Colts tight end Eric Ebron thought otherwise. The 2018 Pro Bowler left a comment on Instagram about Chris Ballard.

“Chris Ballard the same dude that trashed my name through the league,” shared Ebron. “He said I quit. After playing knowing I needed surgery. This is cap and I think he [is] the worst GM ever.”

Ebron’s caustic statements are a reflection of his time in Indianapolis, which marked the pinnacle of his career. Ebron has a close relationship with former quarterback Andrew Luck, accumulating 750 yards and 14 total touchdowns in 2018. After Luck retired, Ebron’s career never looked the same. He continued to struggle to recreate his career-best season and has not played in the NFL since 2021, when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Colts have entirely changed the atmosphere and climate in the locker room, removing toxic guys who cause unnecessary controversy. Ebron’s mindset both on and off the field exemplifies what Ballard hopes to eliminate in his team’s pursuit of a Super Bowl victory.
