Former Chiefs player made candid admission on Patrick Mahomes

Few NFL careers get off to such a rapid start as Patrick Mahomes’ with the Kansas City Chiefs; after taking over as starting from veteran Alex Smith, he never looked back, and the organization now has three additional Vince Lombardi trophies in its trophy case.

Interestingly, when Smith was the starter for famous head coach Andy Reid, he was one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and the Chiefs played competitive football on a weekly basis.

However, the squad had a superstar waiting on the bench, and it appears that several Kansas City players were aware of Mahomes before he was named the Chiefs’ starter.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, former Chiefs player Tamba Hali was one of many who believed Mahomes should have started over Smith.

“At times, we wanted him to play,” Hali said. “We wanted him to be on the field.”

Obviously, Reid and his coaching staff made the correct decision to hand over the keys to Mahomes and let him do his thing on the football field, which resulted in three Super Bowl championships and the club approaching NFL history next season.

If Mahomes and company win a third consecutive title next season, the Chiefs will be the first team in league history to do it, which will undoubtedly boost Mahomes’ case in the GOAT debate while also placing Reid in a separate category.
