Ella Rutherford, a former Charlton Athletic attacker, has joined FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division team Ipswich Town on a free transfer.

The Tractor Girls made the announcement via a statement on their official club website this afternoon.

The 24-year-old joined Ipswich Town after leaving Charlton Athletic earlier this summer. Rutherford has signed a one-year contract with the Suffolk side.

Rutherford spent four years for Charlton Athletic. She made 41 appearances for the South East Londoners in the Barclays Women’s Championship, scoring five goals. The player has extensive elite-level experience, having previously played for Millwall Lionesses, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, and Leicester City.

Rutherford has had her fair share of injury problems, but she is looking forward to a great season in the third division with new club Ipswich Town.

After signing Rutherford, Ipswich Town boss Joe Sheehan stated, “Ella has played in the Super League and Championship and is a clever, attacking midfielder who is very creative and can bring good energy to the group.”

“She has good experience and has also represented England at various youth levels, so she is a player we’re all looking forward to working with.”

Rutherford joins former Charlton Athletic teammate Angela Addison in signing for Ipswich Town this summer.
