Former Boston Bruins head coach found new coaching job

The St. Louis Blues have signed former Stanley Cup champion head coach Claude Julien as an assistant coach, among other changes to their coaching staff.

Julien coached the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup in 2011, and he has been an NHL head coach for 19 seasons, beginning with the Montreal Canadiens in 2002.

Julien spent three seasons in Montreal before moving to New Jersey, where he stayed only one season before joining the Bruins as head coach for ten years. During that time, Julien set a team record with 419 regular-season wins and received the 2009 Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s finest coach. During his tenure behind the bench, the Bruins made seven playoff appearances and reached two Stanley Cup Finals. Julien returned to Montreal in 2016 and managed the Canadiens for another five seasons, until 2021.

The Blues have also promoted former player Steve Ott to associate coach and extended his contract until 2025-26. Ott has been on the Blues’ bench for eight years and had a key role in their 2019 Stanley Cup victory. Ott has played 848 NHL games in 14 seasons, three of which were spent in St. Louis.

In addition to the hiring, St. Louis has extended the contracts of assistant coach Mike Weber and goaltending coach David Alexander until the 2025-26 season.
