Che Adams, a former Birmingham City striker, has been formally introduced as Torino’s latest signing.

It’s quite a change of scenery for the 28-year-old, who has spent his whole professional career in England. That is not to say he will not flourish with the Italian team, as the striker has proven his worth in front of goal over the course of several seasons.

Torino finished ninth in Serie A, losing out on European football as a result. It was, however, a little improvement from their 10th-place result the previous season, and they will be trying to advance once more.

Adams might very well assist them accomplish so, and if he signed a new contract with Southampton, he would be able to play in the Premier League. His 15 goals and four assists for the Saints in the Championship last season would have helped them win promotion through the play-offs, but the Scot, who represented his country at Euro 2024, has decided to move elsewhere.

The striker already has Premier League experience, having scored 20 goals in 96 outings for Southampton. He’ll be looking to carry his goalscoring form over to Italy.

It’s safe to say that the 28-year-old has taken each step forward in his profession with ease. After impressing for Sheffield United in League One, Adams sealed a £2 million move to Birmingham City in the summer of 2016.

For the Blues, he improved with each season, and the 2018/19 season was likely his most fruitful. After scoring 22 goals and assisting five times that season, the striker earned himself a Premier League move to the Saints, costing Birmingham £14 million and proved to be a wise investment.

His move to Torino is free of charge, as his contract with St Mary’s expired this summer. A three-year contract demonstrates that the Scot is in it for the long haul, and he may possibly achieve new heights in Italy.

Southampton will be relieved that Adams will not be facing them next season, as he appeared to be on his way to Wolves. Although they would have preferred to keep the striker, at least he is not in the same division.

The 28-year-old has again established himself to be one of the greatest in the Championship last season, but he must now demonstrate his ability to do so in another country’s top division. Although Adams is not projected to be Il Toro’s primary goal scorer, he could have a good year if he settles well, and it could be a move that benefits both him and the team.
