Former Birmingham City, Luton, Cardiff, and Plymouth striker finds new club 1,644 days after the last match

One former Birmingham City striker has signed with a new club after being a free agent for 20 months.

Isaac Vassell, a former Birmingham City striker, has returned to football four and a half years after making his last competitive appearance.

The 30-year-old has agreed to terms with Bath City, who play in the National League South, the sixth division of English football. Prior to joining Twerton Park, he trained with League One club Bristol Rovers.

In a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the club said: “We’re happy to announce the signing of Isaac Vassell.

Bath are currently in fourth place in the National League and are aiming for promotion. They are currently 18 points behind league leaders Yeovil Town, with a three-point lead over Maidstone United in the play-offs.

The Romans host Braintree Town at home on Tuesday, February 27, which would be Vassell’s first game with his new team.

Vassell’s previous club was Birmingham City’s Championship opponents Cardiff City, who signed him for an unknown fee in 2019. He appeared 24 times for Birmingham over two seasons, scoring once in a win over Sheffield Wednesday in 2017.

He had an injury-plagued stint with St Andrew’s, suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury just weeks after leaving Luton Town.

He was on the Cardiff roster until the summer of 2022, when he was released. He last played a competitive game against his former club, Luton Town, in August 2019.

The Newquay-born attacker appeared in a few games for the Bluebirds’ under-21s, but was unable to break back into the first-team picture at the Welsh side and was eventually released.

He began his career with Plymouth Argyle in 2011, and went on loan to Truro City, Bideford, and Weymouth before joining Truro permanently in 2014. His most prolific scoring season was 16 goals in 49 games for Truro in the Southern League Premier Division.
