Former Birmingham City captain Paul Robinson is back in the Championship after joining Watford, another of his old clubs.

The 45-year-old, who made 175 appearances over six seasons at St Andrew’s and finished his long playing career with the Blues, has returned to Vicarage Road to join Tom Cleverley’s back-room team.

Cleverley took the decision, appointing Robinson as Assistant Coach, while First-Team Lead Coach Javier Pereira has left the Hornets with immediate effect. This ends a brief absence from the game after returning to the Blues on an interim basis under Gary Rowett at the close of last season.

After retiring in 2018, Robinson worked as an Under 18s and U21s coach at the Wast Hills academy before accompanying Rowett to Millwall and then returning to the Blues.

A Watford statement read: “‘Robbo’ will need no introduction to long-serving Golden Boys’ followers; an original boy-done-good story saw him represent his home-town club on over 250 occasions after graduating through the club’s youth ranks in the mid-1990s.

“The 45-year-old, part of Graham Taylor’s double-promotion-winning squad, featured across eight different seasons in Watford’s senior ranks, having made his debut nearly 28 years ago against Saturday’s opponents Luton Town.”
