Former Alabama defensive back is reinstated and then waived by the Colts

On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts removed Tony Brown’s punishment and then waived him.

On December 19, the Indianapolis Colts suspended former Alabama defensive back and wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie for the remaining three games of the season “for conduct detrimental to the team.”

Colts coach Shane Steichen has refused to explain the reason for the suspensions, saying the following day: “It’s an internal matter that we’re dealing with, and I have nothing to add on that.” There are expectations around here, and we must hold individuals accountable. That’s all there is to it.”

The suspended players missed the Atlanta Falcons’ 29-10 loss on December 24, the Las Vegas Raiders’ 23-20 victory on December 31, and the Houston Texans’ 23-19 loss on Sunday. The Colts’ loss on Sunday knocked them out of the playoffs.

McKenzie’s ban was also removed by Indianapolis on Monday, although the wide receiver was not waived.

Brown had 10 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble in 12 games during the 2023 season. He played 56 defensive snaps and 252 special-teams plays.

Brown has appeared in 61 NFL regular-season games since entering the league as an undrafted rookie from Alabama’s 2017 CFP national-championship squad, with more special-teams plays than defensive snaps.
