Following the Patriots’ defeat to the Colts, Mac Jones’ place as the starting QB is in doubt

In their 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the New England Patriots benched Mac Jones at the end of the fourth quarter.

When New England was driving in the red zone and had a chance to take the lead, he made a disheartening interception on his final play. On the last, desperate drive, Bailey Zappe filled in, but the Patriots were unable to complete the comeback.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick stated they needed a “change” after the game, but he hasn’t made an announcement on the team’s future quarterback. Additionally, Mac Jones stated that he has not received any information regarding the Patriots’ starter since the defeat.

No. That’s not anything we’ve discussed,” Jones remarked. “I believe that everyone is annoyed, even myself. Many things I wish I could do better are there. I am confident that I will work hard to achieve it, according to Mike Kadlick of WEEI.

This season, the Patriots have only won two games, and both Mac Jones and the offense have performed poorly on the field. Under Jones’ leadership, the Patriots’ offense ranks second lowest in terms of points per game and seventh-last in terms of total yards. Not ideal, he has also thrown 10 interceptions and 10 picks. Bailey Zappe finished the previous season as Mac Jones’ backup, going 2-0 while completing 70.7% of his throws for 781 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. Despite this, he was 3–7 for 25 yards and a pick in the Colts game.

After visiting Germany, New England has this week free, so they’re not in a rush to decide.
