Following a shocking decision, John Eustace is the favorite to lead Birmingham City’s opponents

The favorite to take over as Bristol City’s new manager is John Eustace, a former manager of Birmingham City.

Despite managing the team to sixth position in the Championship this season, Wayne Rooney took Eustace’s place at Blues during the most recent international break. Since then, they have dropped to 14th in the standings after losing each of Rooney’s first three games in charge at St. Andrew’s.

After just over 2.5 years in command of the Robins, Bristol City relieved manager Nigel Pearson of his duties on Sunday. In his final game in command, the team lost 2-0 away to Cardiff City in the Championship, dropping them to 15th position overall.

“This was a difficult decision to make as we recognise and appreciate how much Nigel has done for the club over the past two and a half years on and off the pitch,” said City chairman Jon Lansdown.

“Nigel has been a huge supporter of our women’s team and the Academy system, and he is well-liked by the players and staff.

We all wanted Nigel to succeed in his goal of getting promoted, but given our recent performance, we believe that a change is needed to give the team the best chance of winning.

“Dear Bristol City family, I would like to thank you, the fans, for your patience during a difficult period when COVID and changes have tested your resolve,” Pearson wrote in a message posted on X on Monday. I absolutely enjoy Bristol and the stunning county of North Somerset, where I have been treated so wonderfully.

“To the players: I appreciate the trip. All have fulfilled their responsibilities; some have been at the club for the entire time, some have only been there briefly, and some have never left. For many of the up-and-coming stars, you are the reason they will be so unique, senior players. Never forget this.

“Thank you; I hope to meet you on the levels, in the Mendips, and maybe at a bar or two. Your support has truly touched my family and me. Good luck, and be careful. Nige, cheers. X

Eustace has the support of Sky Bet to take Pearson’s post at Ashton Gate. Right now, he is the 13/8 favorite to lead the Robins.
