Finebaum points to Nick Saban’s heartburn in 2024 schedule…

The 2024 Georgia football schedule, which includes games against Alabama and Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, was revealed earlier on Wednesday.

Greg McElroy, Paul Finebaum, and other guests commented on the initial revelations during the two-hour “2024 SEC Football Schedule Reveal,” which is being live streamed on DirecTV Stream (free trial) and fuboTV (free trial and $20 off the first two months).

The Sept. 28 game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. ET) and will be televised on ABC.

“Those are the best two programs in the sport right now, and whichever order you have them in is fine,” former Alabama quarterback and SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy stated on the show. “I may not always agree with the sequence in which certain people have it. Georgia and Alabama continue to be very close in my opinion. I could just be a little bit in favor of Alabama.

The two best teams in the league will play that game in Tuscaloosa. Right to brag in the end. Implications for the national championship are at stake. the potential for a 12-team postseason first-round bye. Given that Georgia still needs to travel to Texas later in the season, there’s a chance to advance to the conference championship game, therefore I believe that match is crucial. It’s a big one every time they tee it up.

However, Joey Galloway pointed out that it is no longer the case for a team to “miss” another one on its journey to a possible berth in the SEC Championship Game.

Galloway clarified, “A lot of the time it depends on who you have to play during your regular season.” “The last few years haven’t seen Alabama play Georgia. There has been a lot of discussion about whether Georgia has an easier route to the SEC Championship Game because they haven’t played Alabama in the previous few seasons. We currently get to watch that match during the regular season, and it may happen once more in the SEC Championship Game.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” analyst Kirk Herbstreit echoed those thoughts.

“Obviously, it’s the conference championship game in Atlanta, but anytime you get these two together, it’s usually in the past,” he remarked. “Recall how last year, after Georgia won back-to-back national titles, everyone was talking about a new sheriff in town. That’s really why you knew Alabama had a shot to be a successful team—regardless of the quarterback they chose—because they were so upset about Georgia taking the lead.

“Now that OU and Texas are entering the picture and discussing the SEC and this new universe, you start to fast-forward. Talking about a few classic monsters that Georgia and Alabama have previously discussed and are anticipating is entertaining. Not only will bragging rights in the SEC be at stake, but Georgia and Alabama will be closely watched around the country.

Paul Finebaum argues that the Crimson Tide have a more pressing problem than only the potentially tense contest for both teams.

“I spent a lot of time covering the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn, and the idea that Alabama has to go to Oklahoma the week before as opposed to playing Mercer or some other cupcake is extraordinary,” he told reporters. “I’m sure it will give Nick Saban heartburn tonight.”

The Crimson Tide will visit Norman on Nov. 23 to become the Sooners’ first SEC opponent since joining Texas in leaving the Big 12.
