Fans react as Colts boss calls out NFL

Numerous NFL supporters believed that two contentious infractions in the last moments of the Indianapolis Colts’ Sunday loss to the Cleveland Browns had robbed them.

The NFL acknowledged on Tuesday that referees “did not make the correct calls,” according to Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Although Irsay’s admission may feel like a vindication for him, as well as for supporters and players, it also goes against league policy, and he will probably face consequences for it.

Irsay tweeted Tuesday with a ton of news. He described the successful shoulder surgery that Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson underwent in the first section. Irsay then addressed the topic that had Colts supporters fuming on Sunday.

Irsay tweeted, “The NFL acknowledges and comprehends that they made the wrong calls at the end of Sunday’s Colts/Browns Game.” “In my opinion, instant replay should be used for all calls—including penalties—during the final two minutes of every game.

Rewind to Sunday and the two contentious penalties that the Colts were assessed in the closing seconds by the referees. On the opening play, Indianapolis strip-sacked quarterback P.J. Walker, giving the Browns possession deep in Colts territory, and they recovered the ball. The Colts might have won the game then, but cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. was called by referees for unlawful contact.

The very next play, Baker was again called by officials for pass interference when it looked like he attempted an uncatchable pass out of the end zone meant for Donovan Peoples-Jones.

The two contentious penalties infuriated fans as the Browns scored to seal the victory.

Irsay claims that the NFL has acknowledged that the officials made mistakes on those two plays. However, owners of NFL teams are not allowed to speak on these matters. Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network outlined the regulation and its penalties.

Pelissero tweeted, “The NFL talks with teams about different calls on a weekly basis.” It is forbidden for team representatives to make public comments regarding those conversations. A team owner has now openly said that the league has acknowledged officiating errors.

On Irsay’s apparent infraction as well as the NFL’s purported acknowledgment, fans swiftly voiced their opinions.
