Fabrizio: Smart signing from West Ham

West Ham are close to making their next signing, with Wes Foderingham expected to join on a free transfer.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers have already signed the 33-year-old goalkeeper, who will be the London club’s third choice.

He will sign a two-year contract at the London Stadium, becoming West Ham’s second signing of the summer after Brazilian forward Luis Guilherme.

Romano revealed on X (20 June) that Foderingham will get his medical next week. His arrival will clear the way for Nathan Trott, who will sail for Copenhagen this weekend.

Trott is very close to finalizing a £1.5 million move to Copenhagen, and it appears that an agreement has also been reached for him.

Smart signing from West Ham

Foderingham is an extremely experienced goalie. He appeared in 30 Premier League games last season, demonstrating his ability to be relied on during an injury crisis.

Julen Lopetegui will mostly rely on Alphonse Areola, the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Veteran Lukasz Fabianski is the club’s second-choice goalkeeper, although Foderingham is expected to battle him for a spot in the team.

Foderingham has played for Swindon Town, Rangers, and Sheffield United, totaling over 485 club appearances. He still has a few solid years left in him, and bringing him on board for free is a great business decision.

Also, West Ham managed to acquire a reasonable amount for Trott, who sorely needs to play frequently, and his departure was unavoidable. The Hammers should now make a strong drive to acquire a new centre-back, with Max Kilman regarded as a priority signing for the club.
