Fabrizio Romano believes Birmingham City leading race for Premier League star

Wrexham are looking for new players following their promotion to League One, and fans are eagerly awaiting the first acquisitions of the summer transfer window.

Phil Parkinson has led Wrexham to consecutive promotions, and fans are looking forward to life in the third division.

Wrexham have had an incredible journey under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, and preparing for League One life was something few could have expected only a few years ago.

Wrexham, who haven’t played at this level in nearly 20 years, require significant reinforcements.

Wrexham’s success in League Two was impressive, but they will now face recent Premier League clubs like Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town.

McElhenney and Reynolds must help Reynolds make huge acquisitions this summer, and one target might be hailed as a major coup.

Wrexham battling for Marc Leonard

In May, reports stated that Wrexham had entered the market to recruit Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Marc Leonard.

The Scottish prodigy has spent the last two seasons on loan with Northampton Town, where he has performed admirably.

Leonard, who is now back with Brighton, is expected to leave permanently, and Wrexham are in the running to sign him.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has provided an update, heading to social media to debate Leonard’s future.

According to Romano, Wrexham are leading the fight to recruit Leonard, along with Birmingham City and Oxford United.

Oxford has recently been promoted to the Championship, but Birmingham is poised to join Wrexham in League One.

Romano believes a move for Leonard would cost about £300,000 plus add-ons, implying that Wrexham might establish a new club transfer record this summer.

Wrexham’s record is £300,000 paid for Ollie Palmer in January 2022, when the club paid top dollar to sign a proven scorer during their promotion push.

Leonard would be a little different: a promising young talent who could be a wise investment for the future.

Cardiff City in the mix

Romano’s article does not mention Cardiff City, but the Championship club is said to be interested.

According to Sky Sports, Cardiff are interested in signing him and may give him a move to the Championship, as Oxford did.

Wrexham will face difficult challenges in competing with Championship sides, but the McElhenney and Reynolds idea has enormous appeal.

Leonard may be interested in joining Wrexham if they can convince him that he will play an important role at STōK Cae Ras, rather than merely being a squad player.

After two years on loan, Leonard should be looking to settle down and star on a weekly basis, and Wrexham can provide that.

The former Rangers talent has plenty to think about this summer and Wrexham will hope to come out on top, especially against a side like Birmingham.
