Exclusive: West Ham keen on signing £20m Ipswich man

West Ham United are set to boost the ante in their pursuit of Leif Davis, having put up a succession of good displays in the Championship.

West Ham United have added Leif Davis to their list of targets and will attempt to bring the Ipswich Town player to the London Stadium during the upcoming summer transfer window if he fails to secure Premier League promotion, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.

The Hammers plundered the Tractor Boys nearly a decade ago, when they paid £2 million for Aaron Cresswell, and manager David Moyes is looking to bring another left-back to the capital from Suffolk as preparations for the 2024/25 season begin.

Although Emerson Palmieri has emerged as West Ham’s first-choice option on the left side of their backline, having joined from London rivals Chelsea for £15 million in August 2022, technical director Tim Steidten is scouring the market for new competition as they seek reinforcements.

Hammers Preparing to Bid for Davis if Ipswich Fail to Seal Promotion

Scouts have been impressed with left-back’s performances in Championship

According to GMS sources, Davis is firmly on West Ham’s radar as the summer transfer window opens for business, and his stellar performances in an Ipswich shirt have resulted in last season’s Europa Conference League winners becoming increasingly likely to make a bid if his current employers fail to secure promotion from the Championship.

It is understood that the Hammers are still willing to make contact to find out the 24-year-old’s availability if the Tractor Boys are successful in returning to the top flight, as he has caught Moyes’ attention by racking up 20 assists and finding the back of the net twice in 41 appearances this season.

According to GMS sources, West Ham have been watching Davis throughout the season and believe his style of play is appropriate for where they are going, having been described as a ‘animal’ by former Bournemouth manager Scott Parker, as they look to compete in a continental competition for the fourth consecutive season.

However, Steidten may find it difficult to negotiate a deal with Ipswich because they will be anxious to keep their prized assets regardless of which league they are in next season, and he is likely to be priced at £20 million as a deterrent to potential suitors.

Moyes Battling to Convince Johnson to Stay at London Stadium

East Londoners refusing to accept defeat in attempts to keep academy graduate

According to GMS sources, West Ham have not given up hope of retaining academy graduate Ben Johnson on their books, despite the fact that they appear to be losing the battle as the versatile full-back approaches the end of his London Stadium deal.

The Hammers are in severe danger of losing the 24-year-old as a free agent since his £20,000-per-week contract expires in the summer, and he has refused to sign new terms despite Moyes’ desire to keep him heading into the 2024/25 season.

GMS sources recently revealed that West Ham’s Premier League rivals Crystal Palace are confident of luring Johnson to Selhurst Park because, while his future will only be known at the end of the season, there have been indications that the Eagles would be surprised if he stayed in his current surroundings or joined another admirer.
