Exclusive: Nottingham Forest to agree bid for 27-year-old in few days

Nottingham Forest are to accept an offer for defender Joe Worrall as they seek to alleviate financial worries, according to Football Insider.

On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior writer Pete O’Rourke stated Championship clubs are interested in signing the 27-year-old, whose days at the City Ground appear to be numbered.

On June 6, Football Insider reported that Sheffield United had expressed an interest in Worrall following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

Forest have informed the 27-year-old that he is free to find a new club this summer, having spent the second part of last season on loan with Turkish side Besiktas.

Football Insider reported on June 1 that the Premier League team would accept a bid of roughly £4 million for Worrall’s services.

The English centre-back is expected to depart the City Ground in the next weeks, despite his contract expiring in 2026, and a deal might be completed by June 30th.

Joe Worrall could leave Nottingham Forest to ease PSR concerns

Worrall has been with Forest for 13 years, first joining the club’s youth in 2011 and then rising to the first squad.

The Nottingham-born defender went on to become a fixture in the City Ground backline, helping the club secure its long-awaited return to the Premier League two years ago.

The former England youth international was chosen club captain in 2022, but his opportunities were limited until the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo in December.

Worrall is poised to leave the Premier League club permanently this summer following his loan spell with Besiktas, where he made just six starts in the last few months.

Forest is on the verge of incurring permissible profit and sustainability (PSR) losses as they prepare to submit its books on June 30th.

On June 15, finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that the Nottingham club needed to earn a £20 million profit from player sales by the end of the month to avoid another points deduction.
